As follow up to its first Canadian Legal Innovation Forum Webinar series, ADB Insights is producing a second series of online webinars focused on the business of law starting in October, 2020. The webinars’ content is a series of focused, collaborative presentations from experts at law firms, law departments and their third party partners. The presenters will focus on their innovative approaches to common challenges faced by stakeholders in the sector and will provide specific examples and case studies of solutions that improve internal processes, encourage better collaboration, deliver client value and others.
Each webinar will be accredited for 1 hour of professionalism credits from the LSO and an hour of CPD from LSBC. They are free to view (also on available on demand) and require registration to attend.
Structure:
60 minute presentation format with 3-4 presenters from law firms, in-house counsel and third party partners
Content for the program will be highly curated, directed by user demand and provide clear takeaways for end users
Each webinar is accredited for 1 hour of professionalism credits by the LSO and 1 hour of CDP from LSBC
Users will be able to access the webinar for free by registering their details

E-Discovery: Drivers, Trends and Technology: November 12th, (12pm ET)
Organizations face increasing complexity when it comes to managing legal and business processes. One process is E-Discovery. The scope for e-discovery has expanded beyond its traditional focus on litigation. Examples of its expanded include responding to regulatory requests, government investigations and audits and supporting due diligence on transactions.
For practitioners responding to this complexity, enhancing e-discovery processes has been critical. Defining, mapping and applying advanced e-discovery processes requires better collaboration, creativity and flexibility. Marrying technology with advanced processes also plays a key role. The legal research function is a critical one for law firms and legal departments. And - increasingly - it’s an area being augmented by automation. Automatizing legal research provides many benefits. It enables lawyers to sift through large amounts of information; underpins predictive, data driven insights and enables better, faster and cost efficient responsiveness to client needs. It also eliminates repetitive tasks and allows lawyers to focus on what they do best: provide impactful legal advice. Yet increasing reliance on automation legal research can be problematic. Areas of concern include increased liability risks, algorithmic bias and sectoral mistrust of outputs.

Managing data and organizational risk: December 1st, (12pm ET)
Managing organizations' data in a complex business and regulatory context presents many risks. Meeting compliance and regulatory requirements, increased cyber security risk and reputational risk are all key drivers. Lawyers play a central role in creating frameworks managing emerging risks attached to data. They are responsible for translating high level concepts addressing risk into organizational strategy and implementation. As the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic continues to unfold, legal departments across Canada face many challenges. For the general counsel responsible for these departments, they are managing emerging risks (internal and external), motivating large teams working in distributed environments and constantly adapting to a complex and opaque operating context.
