CANADIAN LEGAL INNOVATION FORUM
WEBINAR SERIES 2020
As an extension to its Canadian Legal Innovation Forum series, ADB Insights is launching a multi-part series of online webinars starting in June 2020. The webinars’ content is a series of focused, collaborative presentations from experts at law firms, law departments and their third party partners. The presenters will focus on their innovative approaches to common challenges faced by stakeholders in the sector and will provide specific examples and case studies of solutions that improve internal processes, encourage better collaboration, deliver client value and others.
Each webinar is accredited for 1 hour of professionalism credits from the LSO and an hour of CPD from LSBC. They are free to view (also on available on demand) and require registration to attend.
Structure:
60 minute presentation format with 3-4 presenters from law firms, in-house counsel and third party partners
Content for the program will be highly curated, directed by user demand and provide clear takeaways for end users
Each webinar is accredited for 1 hour of professionalism credits by the LSO and 1 hour of CDP from LSBC
Users will be able to access the webinar for free by registering their details
Webinars will be available live or in archived format via Zoom’s webinar platform

Effective external collaboration is critical to supporting legal innovation in law firms and law departments. Technology - in recent years - has advanced significantly to support this. Some law firms are building client centric portals that allow bespoke content to be delivered alongside sophisticated workflow management tools for their clients. This webinar will focus on the evolving role of in-house counsel. Management of internal and external investigations is becoming more complex for in-house lawyers as well as for the external advisors supporting them. In recent years, a number of new trends have emerged in terms of the type, scale and complexity of investigations institutions are involved with. In parallel, the role and importance of technology supporting investigations and litigation management has increased exponentially. Delivering outcomes with artificial intelligence: Tuesday, July 7th, 2020 (1pm ET)
The application of artificial intelligence to transform the legal sector has been a key area of discussion when it comes to innovation in the sector. To date, AI has had an impact in areas such as research, due diligence, document review, translation and predictive analytics. However, alongside these nascent examples of AI’s successful application, the longer term impact remains to be seen. Many argue that AI is not necessarily a panacea for large scale legal process disruption, nor will it put droves of lawyers out of work. More likely - along with other applications - AI will be an important part of the tool kit lawyers use to improve their workflow and service delivery capabilities. On this 60 minute webinar, our presenters will review areas where AI is having a tangible impact in terms of improving their delivery of legal services and adding value to their clients. The evolving role of alternative legal service providers (Part 1): Thursday, July, 16th (1pm ET)
The impact of alternative legal service providers (ALSPs) - accelerated by the disruption to the economy by COVID-19 - is increasing significantly. The remit of ALSPs is extensive. They advise law departments and law firms on optimising their strategy and structures - underpinned by tech-enabled service delivery tools. They also provide platforms that enable flexible staffing models, litigation process management, contract lifecycle management and other services. This 2 part webinar will focus specifically on how ALSPs are changing the legal landscape: the types of ALSPs in the Canadian legal market, the services they provide and what opportunities emerging are from their growing importance.
