The Canadian Legal Innovation Forum is hosting a series of virtual roundtables throughout 2022 and 2023. The roundtables will focus on how leaders in legal departments and at law firms are driving innovation within their organizations.
The purpose of the roundtable is to gather a small group of these leaders to share their experiences, best practices and consider how they can better collaborate to deliver results within their respective organizations. And to create a platform to support sharing information, key learnings and enhance participants' networks.
Structure + Format:
4 x 90 minute sessions (two in Fall 2022 and two in Winter 2023) hosted virtually.
20 participants per session - focused on legal department / law firm innovation from across Canada. Closed, off the record discussion of topics below.
Smaller breakout groups will be part of the roundtable to support more granular discussions.

Part 1: Redefining the legal value proposition: what do legal departments value most from their partners? (November 3rd @ 12-1.30pm ET)
Moving beyond the billable hour: how is the value proposition of legal services being redefined beyond the billable hour?
What are the key challenges in relationships between law firms and legal departments when it comes to pricing, billing and other aspects?
How are law firms evolving pricing arrangements with legal departments by leveraging data and analytics?
Law Society of Ontario: This program contains 1.5 hours of Professionalism Content.
Law Society of BC: This program is accredited for 1.5 hours of CPD.
Part 2 - Collaborating for innovation: how might practitioners in the legal ecosystem drive innovation together? (February 2nd: 12-1.30pm)
Why do practitioners in the legal ecosystem (law firms, legal departments, third party partners) need to collaborate in new ways to deliver innovation initiatives?
The ideation process: how are law firms, legal departments and their third party partners working together to ideate creative solutions to their respective challenges.
Case studies of effective collaboration between law firms, legal departments and their third party partners.

Roundtable Chairs
Gillian Scott, Litigation Operations, Products, Partner, Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP
Gillian is a partner at Osler, a leading Canadian business law firm. In her unique, dual business-side role, Gillian supports the National Litigation Department’s strategic operational goals and provides
leadership to the firm on the management of Osler’s innovative legal product offerings.
Gillian is focused on transforming the business of law through practical and incremental change based in talent, process improvement, informed data analysis and technology.
Gillian brings 15 years as a commercial litigator and litigation partner at Osler, three years in Client Development and three years in products to her role, giving her a unique understanding
of both law firm and client-side challenges, pain points and business objectives.
Gillian is based in Osler’s Toronto office
Simon Wormwell, Chief, Strategic Enterprise Initiatives, Osler
In his role as Chief of Strategic Enterprise Initiatives , Simon oversees innovation initiatives across the Firm. He ensures Osler effectively develops innovative thinking into practical applications for continued excellence in client service. Simon is also responsible for Firm-wide knowledge management functions and library services at the Firm.
Prior to joining Osler, Simon was a Director of Knowledge & Research Services at another Canadian firm. Simon also served as Knowledge Management Lawyer at Osler in the Financial Services Group. Before taking on knowledge management roles, he was an associate in a large firm Financial Services practice.
Andrew Bowyer, Founder, The Canadian Legal Innovation Forum (ADB Insights)
Andrew Bowyer is the founder of ADB Insights - a Toronto based media and consulting company. ADB Insights convenes forums, workshops and digitally based platforms focused on innovation in the professional services sector - the Canadian Legal Innovation Forum and The Canadian Estates Forum.
Andrew also provides consulting services for organizations' business development, content and innovation strategies. He has also worked as an editorial consultant/writer for Bloomberg Law for projects focused on the US legal market.
Andrew spent the first 13 years of his career in London and New York in various, globally focused roles at the Financial Times, Bloomberg and a strategy consulting firm focused on the global legal sector. He returned to Canada to set up ADB Insights in 2018.
