The Canadian Legal Innovation Forum, in association with iManage and OSLER, will be hosting a series of virtual roundtables throughout 2022 and 2023. The roundtables will focus on how leaders in legal departments and at law firms are driving innovation within their organizations.

The purpose of the roundtable is to gather a small group of these leaders to share their experiences, best practices and consider how they can better collaborate to deliver results within their respective organizations. And to create a platform to support sharing information, key learnings and enhance participants' networks.

Structure:

  • 15 participants - legal department leaders from across Canada. Closed discussion of topics below - under Chatham House Rule.

Redefining the legal value proposition: what do legal departments value most from their partners? (October 6th)

  • Moving beyond the billable hour: how is the value proposition of legal services being redefined beyond the billable hour?

  • What are the key challenges in relationships between law firms and legal departments when it comes to pricing, billing and other aspects?

  • How are law firms evolving pricing arrangements with legal departments by leveraging data and analytics?

Collaboration is the new innovation: how might practitioners in the legal ecosystem co-author innovation? (November 3rd)

  • Why do practitioners in the legal ecosystem (law firms, legal departments, third party partners) need to collaborate in new ways to deliver innovation initiatives?

  • The ideation process: how are law firms, legal departments and their third party partners working together to ideate creative solutions to their respective challenges.

  • Case studies of effective collaboration between law firms, legal departments and their third party partners.

Andrew Bowyer, Founder, The Canadian Legal Innovation Forum (ADB Insights)

Andrew Bowyer is the founder of ADB Insights - a Vancouver based media and consulting company. ADB Insights convenes forums, workshops and digitally based platforms focused on change in the professional services sector - including the Canadian Legal Innovation Forum and The Canadian Estates Forum.

Andrew also provides consulting services for companies’ business development, strategy and content. Andrew has also worked as an editorial consultant/writer for Bloomberg Law for projects focused on the US legal market.

Andrew spent the first 13 years of his career in London and New York in various, globally focused roles at the Financial Times, Bloomberg and a strategy consulting firm focused on the global legal sector. He returned to Vancouver to set up ADB Insights in 2018.
